It’s definitely time people start thinking about making New Year’s resolutions or otherwise mapping out things they want to get done for the year ahead.
And I’m suggesting that, whatever those plans are, it should include some art.
This should not come as a surprise. I have advocated this whole wacky “making art thing” on this blog multiple times as my seven or nine regular readers may remember. Whether it’s a post I did about Sean Kane’s article detailing scientific reason to make art, regardless of your skill level or Ethan Hawke musing on how art is sustenance (something that was hopefully driven home to all of us while we were at home for the pandemic), you should find ready motivation to make art.
Even in the age of AI? Yes, especially in the age of AI. AI will do nothing good for your cortisol levels. You making art will. If you need a video about it, author Amie McNee Ted talks about it here:
As an aside, I now have a goal to own a coat/robe thing like she has. Of course, owning and wearing such a garment would require me to have a idiosyncratically organized library stuffed with books, maps, and possibly statuary to go with it… but that is a price I am willing to pay.
In the meantime, read the Kane article, check out this other list by Adam Singer, watch the videos above, but most of all, commit to making some art in the new year.
