Still thinking of The Late Show coming to an end last week, I enjoyed one of Colbert’s jokes: that he’d probably wind up hosting a cable access show. I clearly forgot that, back in 2015, that’s exactly what he did in the run-up to his tenure on The Late Show.
So, in what must have been planned as part of his exit, Colbert closed his show Thursday… and then he went back to host that very same show, Only in Monroe, on Friday night. It apparently caused a slight corporate kerfuffle with CBS which has, for the time, abated.
Now you can enjoy both the original 2015 appearance and last week’s installment, both with humor so dry you’ll need to hydrate while watching.
(If you thought the set would be updated… you haven’t experienced the thrift of cable access… but watch to the end).
Both are glorious and remind me of many fond memories working and volunteering at a number of cable access stations. Especially these days, I think these hyper-local community media outlets are vital… and not just to support the plastic plant industry.
Enjoy.
